I drove diesel trucks for 37.5 years, In fact, I'm still driving in my dreams. I turned 77 last April, passed my class 3 California driver license test, and have been planning my escape for 5 years. I have had a 1971 Volkswagen Beetle for 18 years. Last year I killed the engine again, so I stuffed a 1989 Toyota Corolla in it. I'm tired of the bug so I bought a 1989 Ford Ranger pickup with the long bed, a 2.8 engine, an open rear end, with a positive traction rear end in the bed. It has a standard 5 speed over drive transmission in it. It set for 7 years before I paid $500.00 for it, rented a tow dolly, and pulled it home.

Being old, retired, and not getting up till noon thirty, will make sure the pickup keeps me broker than I was, off the road, and out of trouble till I get it ready to go tripping.

Hey Trucker Bob. I'm an old guy too (64), but not as old as you. Hope all goes well with your "new" pick up. I learned to drive on my parents '67 VW type 3.

I got tired of not having air conditioning in my Type one, here in the South Eastern desert of Ca, (20 miles South of Blythe, which is the last town in California in I-10, so I traded a guy the bug if he helped me get the '84 Ranger, a '99 G.M.C. one ton extended van I plan on making into a V8 trike, and a bumper pull trailer to pull behind the trike I plan on traveling again.

These are before pictures of my '84 Ranger. Hopefully I can get it done before my youngest grandson finds out about it. At 18 years old, I turned him over my knee and spanked him. He is like me, and not very forgiving.

The young man I got working for me fixed the trany problem. He checked the fluid in the clutch master cylinder. It had enough fluid in it to wet the bottom of his finger.

I haven't driven it, and wont till the gotta-do lists are done.

Exactly the configuration I had in my 83, dang that truck was a fast demon, the 2.8 has solid lifters! Hope you have fun with it and will be reading along. Love that cali desert, it's where I'm from up by Lone Pine & Mt. View (bay area).

I just cant seem to find my box of "round tuits", so nothing is getting done, except for filling up a 12 terabyte computer disk with down loaded you tube movies.
