Hey everyone. The forums here have been a real blessing to me as I am not much of a mechanic and yet I find myself doing work on a 1986 Ford Ranger.

The one problem that is completely stumping me is where I can find a replacement fuel filler hose. I can't find them anywhere for an 86. I can't even find a part number. Do other year Rangers use the same hose?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Those hoses, with specific bends, are a dealer item. Even the dealers find it hard to get for older years. And yes, most rangers have the same (or a workable similarity) hose.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the info.

My local Ford dealer has told me the part has been discontinued by Ford. Considering what others have paid for this part from Ford they'd be my last choice even if they did have it - but I am getting pretty close to being that desperate.

I haven't been able to get this part from our local pick-a-part yards. They seem to be either absent altogether or in even worse condition than the one on my truck.

lmctruck has the part but is for 89-92 Rangers and they want $250 for it. The drawing certainly looks like my part but then again it's just a drawing. I emailed them and not surprisingly they said that the part is only good for the years listed. That doesn't mean that is necessarily true, but it was the answer one would expect.

A lot of people have obtained the part from eBay, but as of right now there are none available for models older than 1990.

I read a post somewhere where a fed-up ranger owner just took the hose to his local muffler shop and had them fabricate the outer hose in metal. He then forced the inner tube through it and used pieces of the old outer hose as end pieces for the metal tube and just clamped the whole thing together. All in all not a bad plan.

This hose situation is currently keeping me from passing the California smog test.

fun isnt it :), if it were me, id continue looking around on the internet to see if you might find a place that sells them...its worth a shot

Try 1AAuto.com I needed one for a 94 Ranger I'm fixing up.

Looks like I'll be going the "workable similarity" route. A close match is better than no match. Thank goodness we're talking about a part where a close match actually provides proper functionality.
