A story about the bluepup... got the Ranger from my brother-in-law for free, he had a job in Charlotte and would come home on the weekends to his parents, one wkend he said the oil pressure was erratic and ticked a little at start up... I said it's probably the pump. he went to a dealer in Charlotte the next week... they said the gage is bad $300 and the noise is a rod knocking... we can fix for $1300 or we recommend changing for $3000.. but it's ok to drive just be sure it has oil.... the next week when he headed back to CLT he got about 15 miles from his parents.. it sounded like it was turning it's self inside out... he limped back to parents and went out Mon day and bought a new loaded 98 v6 Ranger... we stopped to look at it... he came out with the 90 keys and said I know you can fix it... it's yours... he cranked it... lifters ticking like crazy... got it home checked the gage ... nothing wrong there... dropped the pan... changed the clutch, removed the wax from the pick up tube and installed new pump just to be safe .We now have 150k on the same engine ... this happed around 60k with dedicated oil changes at every 3000 miles...... does Quaker State mean anything ? sounds like the dealer wanted to rip off on a truck sale too and would have probably done what I did with the trade in ..
Welcome to TRS. Congatulations on the now well running truck, and seems as though you have some automotive knowledge to contribute, its always a nice thing to bring with you.
