I came across this site a week or so ago doing some searching for tech tips on how to fix my truck. I've got a 1993 Ford Ranger 4x4 with a 4.0L V6. I was just about ready to sit it out on the road with a for sale sign in it, when I saw how much cool stuff you can actually do to one of these trucks. I've had mine for about five years and I've pretty much just used it for home depot runs and going to work when my car broke down. Lately, she's started falling apart on me, but I think it's mostly my fault for neglecting to do some preventative maintenance here and there. Last week, the water pump went out, so I replace the water pump, radiator, all the hoses, and the thermostat just to be sure that the coolant system is good for a long while. Got that going again and thought I'd try that SeaFoam stuff that I keep reading about on here. By the way, my truck has 197,000 miles on it. Well, I think that the seafoam jarred some crud loose in the fuel tank because it ran great the afternoon that I put in there, but the next day the fuel pump ate itself. :bawling: Luckily it kicked the bucket while I was pulling into work. We have a big test facility with a nice shop and lots of tools, so I'm going out there tomorrow to pull off the bed and change out the fuel pump. Why pull off the bed instead of dropping the tank you ask? Because I have a 10 ton gantry crane at work and I can. :headbang: Thought it would be easier than pulling the tank from below. An added bonus will be that the fuel gauge will work in the damn thing again. The fuel gauge hasn't worked in the 5 years that I've owned the truck.

Anyway, I've got one of these old beater trucks, but I'm breathing some life back into her little by little. I've basically changed out the entire cooling system, cleaned the MAF sensor, put in a new air filter, changed the plugs, SeaFoamed it, changed the PCV valve, and washed and waxed her so far. Tomorrow I'm going to change the oil (castrol high mileage), change the fuel pump, grease the drive shaft (damn popping noise), grease the chassis, change the plug wires, drain and fill the rear end dope and transmission fluid, and brighten up the headlights. Hopefully this will get the old girl back in good shape for a while. Any suggestions for further tune-up would be appreciated.

I just wanted to say thanks for the contributions and advice on here. It's really given me a couple of ideas on how to approach things with revamping my old truck and given me some possible ideas for her future.:icon_cheers:

Welcome to the site, take your time and look around. There is a ton of info here to use. Make sure to check the regional forum for the SE there are a few of us from around AL here, I'm from Gadsden.

I'm not from Alabama, But I can see it from here.
Columbus, AKA Possum Town. Columbus is close enough to 'Bama that at one time it was accidently identified as Columbus, AL instead of Columbus, MS for a while.

Anyway, Welcome to the forum. I hope I hear from ya.
