Hi, I'm new. I live in NW IN. I drive an 03 eclipse (DD) but i have a 86 Ranger that "had" a 351C in it. I did't do the swap i bought the truck that way. after driving it on weekends something broke and it had been sitting in my garage for months now. I dropped a valve, cracked the block and messed up the heads. engine is scrap now. saved what i could and junked the rest. I looked around on ebay and such and found some cheap ford v8's. I ended up with a rusted up Windsor and a 71 400 in my garage and not sure what to do with them. not long after that, i bought my first house and to this day not done anything with my truck or the 2 engines sitting in the garage. I'd really like to somehow put the 400 in my truck but I dont think i have the skill to pull it off. The windsor was so rusted that it will need to be taken to a machine shop. the 400 turns over by hand but other then remove the plugs and put some oil in the cylinders i have't done much else to it. well thats about it. if anyone has any tips or ideas on any of this let me know.

Welcome to TRS Kevin~

You might want to check out the other forums for answers/info...but if you had a 351C in the truck and can find another one, it's just a matter of bolting things in after you remove the old motor...not sure if a 400 (?) will bolt up to the tranny that's there, but if it does someone will let you know...

My suggestion would be to find an old 2.3 and drop that in...much less to worry about...but the drop in HP can make all the difference in the world towards disappointing you if you like to go fast...lol

The trans from the 351C was just rebuilt with a shift kit. it has less then 100 miles on it before the engine blew. The windsor and 400 both came with a trans but i dont know what kind of condition they are in. I do know that the 400 and the 351's trans are not interchangeable. unless it was a 351M that has that same bolt patterns as a 400. I have all this crap in my garage and dont know what to do with it. I looked up how to put in the 400 and it sounded like more then just a few bolts after the 351C was in there. I read about firewall and exhaust problems. also something about the front shocks cant handle the extra weight.. I dont know.. Anyone in my area want to give me a hand?

As for putting in the little engine. all the gauges have been torn out and the wiring is a mess. The basic lights and turn signals work but RPM, Speed, Gas ect. all gone. All i have is a 6" Tack hooked to a 6 AL MSD box. If i can find my pictures I will post them.

Thanks for the warm welcome :-)

Welcome to TRS. You should start posting this question in the v-8 conversions forum. Those peeps can HELP you. They've put everything between 7.3 turbos to gerbil wheels in to power their Rangers.
