My daughter & I found a 1988 Ranger XLT donated at the High school and decided to resurrect her. 2.9, 5spd. Compression is 150 all cylinders. I think it has 118500 miles but not sure. May be carfax will tell me. It has the TOYO tranny and we put in a new clutch kit, slave cylinder, sp plugs, coolant flush, oil change. Brakes are next.
Anything else we should check out ? Thanks for all your input I was pleased to find this Ford and now this Web site! Thanks to all your energy and information.

Welcome to The Ranger Station!

I hope you have her helping do the work on it.
I point and watch, occasionally loosen a tight bolt.

I'm big on preventive maintenance.
Flush the coolant, belts, new fluids all around, at least check every level, including the driveline. Check the Ujoints.

I go so far as disassembling starters and alternators, greasing their bearings.
Therapy for me, would be lessons for her. Hours of dirty fun.

Took my pickle fork to my oldest boy's, had him pull his whole front end from the tie rods to the pitman arm on his FS Bronco. Had a lot of play and stupid 35" tires.

Have you read any of the Tech Library and Magazines?

Welcome to TRS!

The 2.9 is a great engine. Most last upwards of 250,OOO good preventative maint. Go to the tech library and look over all the great info. If you run into problems and need some quick answers go to the general discusions and post your questions. Lots of FORD heads on this site and you'll always get a quick response.

Have fun here, I love this site!

Mike.
