Hey guys and girls. I don't have a Ranger, I have a Chevy LUV with a small block in it. I do however have 3 other Fords. A Five Hundred, F250, and a Windstar. Anyway, the LUV has a welded up Ranger rear end in it. It needs brakes. The shoes are 2 1/2 inch wide and the drum is 10 inch diameter. Can anyone help me with what year this Ranger rear end is, so I can buy the correct parts for it? I can give more info if needed. Thanks in advance, Ron.

I'm pretty sure you already have everything you need to know. Just pick a year that had 10" brakes. They should all be the same no matter what year or vehicle. Might want to pick a later year so you get any revised parts that hold up longer or are easier to install.

If it were mine, I'd just go in the parts store and tell them I need Ford 10" Brakes. If they insist on an application, tell them you have a 94 Ford Ranger.

When in doubt...always take the part in if you can...dismantle one side only and take the shoes in...the 10" drums were quite common, but there were actually a few different styles...for instance...my 88 had 10" drums but the shoes will not work on my 96...they even smell different...just kidding...

Anyway, I think the parking brake assembly is what is the biggest difference...or, at least, how they connect to the shoe...I have a set of 88 rear cables that won't work on my 96 mainly because of the way they connect to the main cable...I can probably mod them to work...but these are brakes...one of the last things I want to modify...

Thanks for the replies. Yea I found out there were different widths of the 10" shoes. Mine were the narrower ones at about 2 1/2'. The store was able to get a number off my old shoe and cross reference it to their numbers and get me a set off their shelf. Still not sure what year/make /model this axle is out of though.
