Hello! As my name suggests, I'm more of a Jeep guy. (I still own an '89 Cherokee that probably needs to be scrapped, but I just can't bring myself to put the ol' girl down.) I have a fair bit of automotive background, used to work as a service technician and even did a summer internship working on Ford's technical assistance hotline. These days, I find doing maintenance work for the VA and serving my fellow brothers (and sisters) in arms more rewarding though. Hope y'all have a great day, AATW!

Welcome to TRS! And thanks for your work with the VA.

Welcome to TRS. We won't hold the jeep thing against you haha. Hope you enjoy the group as much as I do.

Haha. My first Jeep was a '96 Cherokee 4.0 straight-6, 4x4, 5-speed. Bought it for $1,000 as a college beater, with (I believe) 296K original miles on it, knowing it was going to need some work, most of which I did myself. And I just kind of fell in love with her. She wasn't pretty, but she ran good with over 300K and an odometer that hadn't worked for 6-8 months when she got hit head on. Both vehicles- total loss. Wasn't the first accident though. The "Little Green Mountain Goat" also totalled out a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse when I got rear-ended. I drove away, the Mitsubishi driver didn't.

Welcome Jeep Guy! Thx for your VA volunteering. Headed down to my local VA facility this morning. Tell us about what your up to.

Yeah, Elkhorn's real pretty... right up until it gets hit by a tornado or a derecho (or as my dad likes to call it, "the land hurricane.") Tree limbs, tree limbs EVERYWHERE!

I bought the ol' XJ years ago for $400 knowing that if it blew up on the side of the road, I could get at least $300 out of it. It can start, run, move, and even STOP under it's own power with a bit of motivation... other than that, literally everything else is broken.

thats exactly what we told our son when he told us he chose that town out of all the places the army offered him... tornados. and when he told us that town, the week before is when that tornado had just gone through and destroyed it back a few months ago.

those xjs are dependable little trucks, for sure. and 89 is before you got "all" the dodge stuff in them so they were even better. you still have the renix fuel injection, right? there is a dude that will bore the tb for that engine out to way larger and just swapping that out, makes it feel like you upgraded to 4.10 gears from the 3.55s. i had an 87 with a 6 inch lift and that tb swap was amazing in terms of drivability. i didn't even regear once i did that swap.

Leigh Performance Machine (strokedjeep.com)

the dude is super cool that does that stuff

i tried that throttle body swap on our last cherokee, a 2001. since you can also get a larger one for the newer 4.0. it didn't make nearly as much of a difference. that renix fuel injection is so easy to work on, too
