ok im looking for some hellas for my truck. i have been looking at the 500s. but i just found a set of 700ffs for pretty cheap. what is the difference between the normal lights and the ff lights? are the ffs more of a flood light and the normal lights more long range or what?

thanks

just look at the lenses for your answers. if the lenses are completely clear, they are long range off-road lights and probably not legal to use on the street. if there is fluting in the lenses, then most likely they will be for driving or fog.
for driving, the pattern of the light is usually longer than your regular low beams and a little more intense. they give you more light farther out but not as bright as high beams.
lens fluting for fog will give a beam that spreads out more closer to your vehicle and will be much brighter closer up so you can see the street lane and fog lines more easily. some will also be yellow in color, either the lens or the bulb inside. yellow light tends to cut through fog a little better than white light overall... or so some think.

both driving and fog lights are designed to give you more light in each situation without blinding the oncoming cars. there are usually diagrams on the back or front of the packaging that show you the beam pattern and tell you what the light is for.

Great post, strvger!

Read above^^^ TONS of good info that applies to what you're asking. That first line and the last post he put up, both just about tell you exactly what you need to know. But I don't think you read any of that usefull info he typed out.

Never thought about looking at the product website did ya?

Here, click here: http://www.myhellalights.com/halogen_lamps/index.html

Put your mouse over the Hella 500ff. You will see it's available in either Driving or Fog beam pattern.

You're welcome.

i did go to the site i guess i should of been a little more discritive. what are the lines in the glass like the 500s at walmart are just normal glass but the 500ff have the lines in them.

read what you wrote, and try it again...doesn't make much sense...

But from what I gather from that jibberish, again, read at strvger's post. He explains the lense differences and those flutes(what you call 'lines').

Translation?:: I did go to the site, I guess I should have been a little more descriptive. There are no lines in the 500's at Walmart, but the 500FF's have lines in them.

Hence, the '500' is just the driving/offroad light, but the 500FF are fog lights.
