when operating the ac it works for a while then nothing but hot air comes out if i turn the ac off for about 5 to 8 min then turn the ac on it starts working again can any body help on this problem have also filled the ac and still act this way have a 1999 ford ranger xlt 4x4

It could be a bad compressor clutch. I've seen that before, once it gets hot it won't re-engage. To confirm this, wait until it has started blowing hot, leave the truck idling. If you know how the clutch works, it "pulls in". So, take solid piece of wood, like a dowel rod or whatever and pop the clutch as best you can while it's spinning.

If it clicks and engages from that whack, the gap is too great because the clutch plates are worn. You can shim a lot of them and it is a replaceable part, remove center bolt, give it a whack and it's off. I'd simply get one from the JY.
