so i bought a new temp senor and put it in just to replace the old one. After doing that the guage has been saying the engine is running hot, i mean like almost all the way to the top of the guage. i dont really believe it becuase it was fine prior. so my question is how do i go about fixing this, new sensor or some kind of way to reset the guage to match the new sensor? any help would be awesome. its a 87 2.9l v6 5 spd man 4x4

thanks

check the sensor with a dvom, you might have got a bad one, it happens.

whats a pcm and how do i go about reseting it. would this might be related to the thermostat?

Pcm is the computer that monitors and controls your engine (fuel use, emissions, etc...) To reset it you would disconnect your negative battery cable for 10 min or so. What would resetting the pcm have to do with the thermostat is nothing at all. But now I'm confused cause in your first post you said that you replaced the temp sensor. Do you mean the temp. sending unit? the temp. gauge? The thermostat?

i replaced the guage sensor thing that sits in the engine by the thermostat. i did disconect the negative battery cable and samething still going on. i did not change the thermostat though
