i've got a 93 ranger, 4.0L... wondering if anyone knows how long it takes to do a heater core? Mine is shot :icon_rofl: and to me, it doesn't look too bad to get to... just wondering if that is the actual case or not

x2 what mtnrgr said. but actually the gen 1 dashes are really simple as well(changed one in an 87 i used to have) just unhook the hoses, remove the little plastic skid plate lookin thing on the passenger side under the dash, give it a lil pull and it should pop out. Might have to wiggle it some to get it to come out, but otherwise i would think it should take maybe 20mins to pop the old one out and throw the new one in. Like mtnrgr said, just depends on the person really.

ok, thats what i thought when i took a peek underneath, right behind the glove box. Someone told that it would take like 4+ plus hours to do, and i wanted to make sure i was lookin at the right spot haha

Thanks guys!

So that heater core took me an hour total... from driving to, getting the part, driving me back and putting it!

when you say it was shot, was it leaking???

and yeah, I think they didn't want ranger mechanics to be spoiled so they "fixed" their mistake. haha.

reading this thread inspired me to do mine, the previous owner just bypassed the heater core after it started leaking and ive been meaning to get around to fixing it for a few weeks now.

45 minutes from the time i popped the hood till a completed function test. my god was that sweet. ive got to change the one in my fox body and i know that bastard is gonna take prolly a full day, cant wait. wish ford would of incorporated this into the same year model mustangs

I used to work at a VW shop and the flat rate for a heater core replacement was 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 hours depending on model. The techs had a way of bending the plastic case the core was in (after taking out all the screws holding it on) as far as they could and the heater core would slip out. Total job took about 45 minutes to an hour. So it's possible, but I never saw exactly how they did it.:icon_confused:
