replaced the heater core in my 89 Ranger today. The old one did not have a bracket or anything that mounted it to the firewall, therefore I discovered where the danged rattle was that has been about to drive me nuts. The in/out hose attachments are all that sticks through the firewall to support it.

Now with the new one installed, the "drive you insane" rattle is still there from where it just hangs in the area it stays in. I've racked my brain trying to figure out a cure or something to cram in that vacant space to hold it tight, but can't think of anything that would be fireproof, as that little core get H~O~T !!!

Anyone have any thoughts of some way to secure this thing to keep it quiet ?

Fixed my own problem. Split some heater hose and placed it behind the dangling heater core. Got a couple of springs and riveted them to the firewall and hooked each end to the bottom of the core, holding the core tensioned against the split hoses. Works and now done !!!
