ust bought a 91 ranger with cracked heads. no water in oil. payed 280 for the truck.

are there any late model heads that will fit the early 4.0 my truck has?

Any of the 4.0L OHV heads will work. The 95 and up heads have a different combustion chamber. Unless you know what your getting into I's stick with the early heads.

89-94 ranger
91-94 Explorer
92-96 Aerostar

I asked because i was told heads that are 93t castings are the same as my heads just thicker walled

HMM what other engines will bolt up to the stock 5-speed

the only other engine that will bolt up to your transmission you don't really want. just get a newer set of heads for your 4.0L.......... or do a s/c saleen 5.4L swap with a mustangII front suspension conversion and r&p steering

i lied there is coolant in the oil. ugh hopefully i can hone the cylinders when i change the heads and get the rings to seat i refuse to rebuild this motor. i can get 250 bucks if i scrap it lol only payed 280 for it

change the heads and drive it like you stole it. don't even bother with honing.

you can get a whole explorer engine for $300............ its not like your engine is expensive

true just figured it couldnt hurt since i have the hone. this is my first non chevy vehicle ive owned in 4 years and the first ford to be in this yard in 35 years.

change the heads, change the oil, run the engine for 2 or 3 hours (till it quits smoking) and then change the oil......... then beat it like a rented mule

found a set of heads in local salvage yard for 40 each hopefully there not cracked

don't hone the cylinders. odds are good that your rings won't seal after you do, especially at any sort of mileage.

i think junkyard heads are going to be the best bet only have 150 to spend to get a pair of heads
