I have a 93 ranger. Have had problems with the lights for a while. The problem was that you had to play with the light/signal/wiper arm to get them to come on. Got really tough last week and when they finally came on, they came on bright and now they will not go off. I am disconnecting the batter to turn them off. I would think it is the switch (is this what they call the multiswitch). How hard to replace and where can i get some instructions.

The multi-function switch is no big deal to replace. You need to get the steering column trim covers off and 2 screws hold the switch to the column. Make sure you inspect the connector, it's pretty common for the switch contacts to overheat and damage the plastic connector body and terminals inside.

Is the fact my headlights wont go off indicative of the multi switch. My blinkers, wipers, etc all work. When i called the auto store they quoted me a headlight switch, but when i looked that up, it is different then a multi switch.

I'm looking at the wiring diagram. For the low beams to have power, the headlight switch needs to be on but the power to the flash to pass feature is wired directly through the fuse panel, fuse #12. If the multi-function switch was shorted internally, causing the lights to stay on, pulling fuse 12 should make them go out. Give that a try. If they go out, there's a good chance you need a multi-function switch. If they stay on, you need to figure out why you have power coming through your headlight switch. Hope my rambling doesn't confuse you. The fact that you had to wiggle the switch to make your lights work before makes me lean towards the mf switch.
