The headlight switch broke loose on my 1996 Ford Ranger. How would I go about dismantling the dashboard to reach the switch?

Many of the following panels have spring clips to help hold them in place. Don't break or lose them.
  1. Remove the panel under the steering column (2 screws on the bottom edge, 2 on hood release lever). Then remove the metal plate under that (multiple bolts around edge).
  2. Loosen the center radio bezel (2 screws above the radio, pull out). Don't remove completely, just pull loose and move to the passenger side. You will need to get to one or two bolts/screws next to the speedometer surround.
  3. Drop or lower the steering column (4 nuts).
  4. Remove the speedometer surround (3 screws above the speedometer opening, 1 or 2 screws along the right side where the radio bezel was moved from, 2 or 4 screws along the bottom of panel)
  5. Unplug the lighting switch attached to the back of the speedometer surround.
  6. Do what you need to and put it back together.
