Headlight bulb - what do you think?

Avoid any light that has a higher wattage than stock. You risk burning up the wiring. You are going to get a lot of different opinions about which light is the best. For me, Philips Xtreme Power is the only way to go. After trying most of the bulbs available at the local parts place i decided to go with the Xtreme Power. I will be using them in all future vehicles as well. Brighter and good coverage without blinding people. I compared them to my buddies Silverstar headlights and he even said that the Xtreme Power was better. The only real downside is that you have to order them online.

The brighter the bulb the shorter its life span...
They are not legal to have so you might get stopped for them being to bright..

Has anybody actually tried these and burned the wire up or been pulled over or caused an accident?
I want to hear from 1st hand experience
No disrespect to those who have already answered - I really appreciate it. I don't want to sound like one of those that can't be told!!! I just wonder if anyone out there has actually tried these?
Thanks, guys.

I got some of the really cheap "Hyper Whites" on ebay that sold for less than $10 shipped. I went back to stock since they put out more light...

I had the high beam filament for those go out in a month. I'm getting new assemblies, since the plastic is cloudy, and those Philips.

I didn't even leave mine in for a week before switching back to stockers, lol. I hated them that much... They really are cheap Chinese knock-offs though :/ The silver coated tip had started to rub off of them... You get what you pay for.

You know what? For my housings I used that McGuires Plastx to clean off the oxidization and then shot them with a couple coats of clear coat to keep them from glazing over. They almost (but not quite) look brand new even months later.

I bought the sponge/pad thing that you put on a drill, and that cleared the yellow off the plastic and now the light is white, but still really cloudy, so diamond cut glass ones will be better for me.

I really shopped around for my headlights for my Ranger. I decided to go with the Sylvania SilverStar Ultras. They are a bit pricey around ($50), but they are well worth the money. They have a blue-ish tint to them which leads to better visibility in rain, snow, fog, etc. I am 100% satisfied with them. I am going to install a set in my Bronco soon!

Oh and by the way, I found them at AutoZone.

What are people's experience with Silverstars lasting? I tried these a couple times in my Mazda6 and they wouldn't last a year, usually less (and yes I took all precautions when installing them). Finally I just put the bulbs that came with the car new back in and they are still going strong.

Thats kind of what ive heard about Sylvania lights which is one reason why i strayed away from them. And the fact that i dont like blue bulbs and wanted white.

Ive noticed nothing blue about my silver star ultras i have had them in my 93 ranger for over a year, they work great. First thing i noticed was they reflect so much more off road sign and people are always flashing me when i only have the low beams on lol. Beside going hid the silverstar ultras work wonders.

I had that same experience with the normal Silverstars in my 92 Z34. I only drive that car in the summer, but so far they are still kicking years later. My car also doesn't see as rough of roads as my truck does so that could have something to do with it too.

Hell it ain't going to be any brighter than the fuucking morons out there who won't turn off their auxillary driving lights. I would love to see the cops give those pukes a ticket. They refuse to turn the off even when you flash your brights at them. I just pull back on the turn signal and turn on both the brights and the dims at the same time. ****ing blind em back just like they are doing to me!!!!

Ok rant over. I do this every time I read a headlight thread here. Really you don't want to go to bright as the more expensive brighter bulbs burn half as long and burn out frequently. I will never buy GE silver again, they burned out in less than a year. $$$$ down the toilet. Just keep your lenses clean and possibly check the alignmen of the beams.
