Headgaskets need replacing... what else should I do?

The truck is a 1992 3.0. The headgaskets have been going out for awhile now I believe, as it is dumping coolant out the side and low on power now.

Going to be taking the heads in for inspection when I do this, and the truck has 220k+ miles on it. It just passed emissions as is, with no problems, and not even close to failing. So that would indicate to me that I'm not burning any oil(though I do lose some, I believe due to the HG).

Overall, the engine seems pretty solid on this truck. But with this many miles, are there any recommendations on other things I should do/look for while I'm in there?

edit: Well I answered my other question, as I see the forums were lost in August of 2007.

depends on your budget.

it wouldnt hurt to do a full top end refresh while your in there (NEW valves if you can afford them, if not, a full valve job would do). clean and polish the combustion chambers as best you can (to prevent carbon build up, which causes knocking). cleaning the fuel injector hats and intakes. you may be interested in replacing your manifold studs with stainless steel (your going to break one attempting to remove the manifolds). clean up your lifters really well while you are in there (you might consider taking them apart and cleaning all the old oil out of them, then filling them with as much clean oil as you can before re-assembly). if your interested in installing a mechanical oil pressure gauge...the one and only pressure fitting on the block is very easy to get to with the passenger side head off.

thats all i can think of for now...
