header for I-4

hi guys my sisters boyfriend has a 1998 base model with the 2.5 and i cant finda header anywhere was just thinking that a 2.3 header would work but the question is will the 2.3 header bolt to the 2.5 head dont know much about the 4 bangers mainly a 302 person lol

all of the Ranger 2.0L/2.3L/2.5L engines (excluding the duratec 2.3's) have the same exhaust pattern. But that being said it should already have a header which should be enough for the engine, you might gain 1% power working on the exhaust side, the restriction is more in the intake side of the cylinder head usually on these.

The cast iron "header" is better than the stock Ford tubular header.

Both guys above are correct, also, a longtube header will not make any more power and actually a significant loss in torque.

Unless you want to race it, and turn the engine 7000+ rpms all the time.

thanks guys and hes not really wanting to race it he just wants a badass 4 banger and i was tryin to help him lol i already cut the air box fixing to put a less restrictive intake hose on it but thanks for the help

and also how interchangeable are the 2.3 and the 2.5..... i do know that the 2.5 is just a stroked 2.3 but performance parts wise, what could be purchased

Everything except rocker arms, pistons, rods, and intakes are interchangeable. But they sell the pistons and rods for the 2.5 as well.

Also if you use a performance 2.3 cam, you will get more lift than advertised because of a different rocker arm ratio.

thanks ... it also has the 8 spark plugs and my friend has one as well but his dad did some with the fire order on the exhaust side so that the plugs fire at the same time how do i do that

I would just keep the stock Ford firing order. Some people have posted about changing the order. If both plugs do fire the way Ford has it set up plus the waste spark is sent to the cylinder on the exhaust stroke. You won't again anything be moving the wires.

Like xlt said, there is no, I mean absolutely none, gain from switching plug wires.
