Just have one question,I took off the heads on my engine,2.9, and on the drivers side I noticed one valve was white and another green and they're on different cylinders, what would cause this. The seals are bad and gonna get replaced,my 2.8 had bad seals but the valves weren't discolored like that.Just wonderin, thanks.

which valve was what color?? intake and exhaust

on the valve top, exposed to the combustion chamber only...or all over the stem and all?

does it appear that they are painted this color?? or more likely something growing or attached to the valve?

The first one looks to be the intake on the no 4 cyl and exhaust on the no 5.The green(intake) one looks crusty, only way to describe it and the white one sorta the same way.Nothin' was painted on and i haven't yet pulled anything apart, not a real big deal as the truck is just sitting now.

Nearly any color is good if the valves aren't covered in slag! White or brown is the color of choice. But CLEAN is what valves like. With bad valve seals you might get most anything in there. A nice light brown to white is most common.

a green stained valve on one cylinder? was it consuming coolant? there had to be a reason you pulled the heads.

white is a normal color for exhaust valves, intake valves should be cleaner

on the cylinder with the green valve, is the piston shiny and clean? if it was sucking water for long it would end up steam cleaned

Actually the oil is fine and the piston is the normal black.I pulled the intake 'cause I plan on selling it to get something a lil' more economical,I noticed the valve seals are shot so I want to rebuild the heads. It's just sittin' so I thought what the hell.I have my other truck so no big deal. Thanks for the input though.
