Head Gasket doesn't look right

I just wanted to confirm that I'm not crazy.

I've never done anything with heads or head gaskets before, but I've got my intake manifold off because I thought there was a leaking intake manifold gasket and then I look back to the back of the head where it meets up with the intake manifold and see this...

Something tells me the shop that replaced the heads didn't do something right or maybe tried to make the wrong part fit... I don't know, but either way I just want some confirmation on whether this is supposed to be like this or not. I'm assuming no.

Does look a little odd. Did they put on a set from the wrong year maybe or get one on backwards?

I took the head off today and it looks like they had 2 passenger side head gaskets and wound up putting this one on upside down and backwards.

Good thing you spotted that!

Right!

I'm really annoyed... a large reason I was willing to buy this truck was because the PO had very recently had the heads resurfaced and the valves done. But now I've had to go through and basically undue EVERYTHING that the mechanic did...

I've called the previous mechanic. I also took photos and video. They say they "stand behind their work"... lets see what they have to say to all of this...

That is damn frustrating. Hopefully knowing this you didn't pay more for it.

I did... unfortunately.

And I've had the run-around from another shop that I took it to locally that said it was the rear-main seal... all in all this truck has, and probably will continue to be, an experience.
