replaced cracked head [reblt] and gasket. as soon as i cranked the motor a couple times, the oil was FULL of coolant. i'm assuming a cracked block. has anyone been thru this or know how i can confirm it is the block? would a cooling system pressure tester tell me what i need to know?

the truck was given to me by a co-worker who said that whenever he drove truck, after a few miles it would start knocking and stall. evidently this went on for a few days, or more. the truck sat for a few months before he gave it to me and told me what had happened. i knew rt. away it was overheating. water pump was shot [the $20 problem] and had coolant in the oil [the expensive result]. head was cracked. got a reblt. head, new head bolts and replaced head gasket. i've done a few before and have had no problems.

Why didn't you check out the block when you did the head?

I'm no expert, but I'd say you sound like you're on the right path here. Coolant pressure test would just tell you there was a leak SOMEWHERE in the system. You would have to test just the block to confirm it was the source.

To put that much water in the oil that fast has got to be a massive crack. If it leaks that much you will be able to see it run out where ever.Sounds like you better pull the motor out and apart.

thx

thx everybody. just good to hear what i was already thinking... did ck. all out as well as i could when head was off, but...not good enough i guess....looking for either good used engine or long block...cking ebay etc. if anyone knows a good lead i would appr. it.......thx again

wow.. that is a good lead... he only wants p.u., but if i can get him to ship...thx again

Upside down head gasket?
