My 89 2.9 Ford Ranger will run good for about 10-20 miles, but then loses power and will not go over 50 MPH. I have put in a new fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel regulator, spark plugs, spark plug wires, cap and rotor, coil, TFI module, and have checked all the grounds. I have also checked timing and plan to replace the O2 sensor, but still at a loss for what could be causing the loss of power. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Pull the front o2 sensor out. See if it improves. Sounds like the catalytic converter is clogged

the catalytic converter has been removed by the prior owner. i just removed the o2 sensor have a new one on the way.

You dont have a wheel bearing or rear end locking up do ya?

I had a 79 F150 that would go down the road fine for about 15 miles then the 9in rear would heat up and it would feel like it was losing power. Let it cool it was fine.

Might not be an engine issue.

I am new to diagnosing stuff like that what’s the best way to check to see if the rear end is locking up I took the differential cover off and cleaned it out put new fluid in it about a month ago.

When it acts up let off the gas and see if it slows down like you got a stuck brake
