I have a question in regards to taking any 2.3 out of the junkyard and converting it to carb [ if its efi ] using a esslinger intake and what I would have to do for an ignition system. I was under the impression I could uses a msd distributor with a coil and msd control box. This is for a buggy project so I want to keep it simple. Please any info. would be welcome. Thanks.

use the duraspark dist from any old 2.3 including
the computer controlled carb rangers. it
will run msd box, but the duraspark module
and coil work fine too.

I agree with schmoo duraspark II for the ignition if you can`t find the parts in the bone yard I dont imagine you will spend much over $150 for dist-cap-rotor-module-coil-resistor new they are real simple and pack alot of punch at the boneyard look for the distributor that has three wires with a round black connector and hopefully the module that has two connectors 4 wires round and two wires oval you can pretty much use any coil with a ballast resistor and mount the module away from heat the same if you go msd or you can also use the 4 wire GM ignition module with the duraspark distributor and is just as easy to wire and also packs a punch you have alot of options for the ignition as for fuel I am sure someone here has the answers

here are a couple links gl

Im not sure but I got my harness from a 84 4 cyl ranger from the distributor to the module and looked but could not find the module. That was the 4 to 3 connector female plugs but you can just get the distributor and wires if you can find one or maybe check out the auto part stores like autozone napa and check different years out then piece together whatever you decide to do for the ignition module they all will work with the duraspark distributor. If you know what ur looking for the bone yard is good too just find the same engine with a carb setup if it has the long flsat connector its wrong it needs the black round three wire coming out of the distributor with a single vacuum advance port gl
