What is the best way to strap down a pickup box?

My brother is getting a new box for his '97 F-150 from down south, we are going road tripping... really can't decide if would be better to flip it upside down and strap it down on cardboard or to put it on something rightside up and strap it down that way.

Taking one of our F-150's and a 18' car trailer on the voyage.

when i picked mine up for the ranger, i layed some thick blankets down and flip the box upside down on the box rails. rode very good and that way you dont have to worry about bending anything just keep the talegate closed and nothing can bend.

I doubt it comes with a tailgate although maybe we could bring with an extra. That is something to take into consideration. :icon_idea:

Upside down seems the most stable, just not sure how it would play out to tie it down without messing up the bottom of the fenders.

when i hauled one for my stepbrother i hacked up a couple 2x4's and poped them in the stake pockets and sat the new bed upside down to keep it from sliding around and then lightly strapped it down. hauled it back to pa from Texas that way.

I also take some scrap rug remnants, double them over, cut holes to fit over the pegs you put in the stake pockets, and slide the rug remnants over the stakes and it will keep from having metal-on-metal rubbing and messin up any paint. Strap it down and you are good to go.....
