so i today i picked up a 99 neon with a 5 speed and the cooling fan doesnt work... im gonna wire it up to work as soon as i get a reply.... but do i want the fan to push or pull the air away from the engine....???

I may be wrong but I'm guessing tward the motor. That way it would be pulling air through the radiatior and to the motor. Thats just my guess.

thanks man i hated having to ask that but i just wanted to make sure... its a pretty cool little car body kit cai, ported head and header not bad for 600 bucks... nice truck by the way.

thanks and no thats a good deal. be nice to find somethin like that for myself save be big $$$ on gas.

Yes it needs to pull towards the engine... pulling outside air through the radiator (or pushing, depending on fan location, but watev)

incase your wondering, this is done becuase say your going up a hill or driving under load, and the fan needs to kick on...the fan would need to fight against the air thats flowing past the rad from the air flow created when your driving, and reverse it, which will probably overheat the engine.

I wondered the same thing, until i looked it up a while ago...makes sense. Its the same on all cars, ive never seen one car ever that had a fan that pushed out the front grill.

^^ True...

Don't forget that a REALLY powerful fan would severely hamper your gas mileage...and may even push you backwards...:)

lol thanks guys i really hated sounding like a jackass but ive never had to run a toggle for a fan before.... anyone in here interested in my 87 ranger? its one of those choo choo conversions from tennessee...

you want the fans to pull if the fans are mounted behind the rad. and yes you can wire them to a switch
