Has anyone tried the do-it-yourself "spray on" bedliners?

Those were both sprayed by me. I used SEM truck bed liner with no acetone and sprayed it out of a standard Schutz undercoating gun.

how much does a standard Schutz undercoating gun cost, if I was going to spray my ranger, like you did yours...

will this standard Schutz undercoating gun, work with a 2 HP air compressor that has a 20 gallon tank...

if the standard Schutz undercoating gun, you used, is real expensive... are there less expensive undercoating guns, that you recomend, that will work, nearly as well...

is it any harder to master the tecnique for spraying on the bed liner material, with an undercoating gun, than spraying on paint, with a regular paint gun...

how much SEM bed liner material does it require to spray the whole outside of a ranger... and what did it cost for the amount of SEM bed liner material that was needed...

the rangers you sprayed look really sharp... bet you've gotten allot of compliments, on them, when people have seen them...

The Schutz gun is only about $20 but you also need to buy a air regulator for it which is under $20. So about $40. A compressor that small isnt going to cut it. I dont remember the CFM requirements but I know its quite a bit. Spraying the bed liner is easy, much easier than any paint/primer with a gun. It takes between 1-1.5 gallons depending on far you go (door jams etc.). I believe its anywhere between $150-$200 for a gallon kit.

I had the Rhinoliner sprayed on my 97 Ranger bed when it was new. I can say it is awesome and I have had all kinds of loads back there. Stone, pavers, sand, lumber, logs, snowmobile, etc.. It never chipped or peeled. Wash it off and it looked new. I had it done up over the rails and on the inside of the tailgate. They did an excellent job.
Now that I have sold the truck and bought a 08 Ranger, I'm looking into doing it again. I thought of saving money by using the DIY type, but now that I've read this thread, I think I'll go with what I know from experience is best.
Thanks for changing my mind about the DIY junk. I guess I'll dig deep and pay the pros!
Later,
Joe
