Has anyone put an inline 6 in a Ranger?

So far it looks like more work than it's worth compared to just dropping a rebuilt 2.3 back in it---------------- when the time finally comes-------------------- he didn't blow it yet, lol.

OK comprede now lol.

i measured a 200- it is 31 1/2 inches long
including water pump. that means i would
have to move the radiator about 3 inches
forward. i could use a pinto radiator and
cut the nose off the water pump and set
the motor back a little.

Would a pinto radiator be able to keep it cool? Might be able to with electric fans.

While a 200 would be an eaiser fit then a 300, its not going to have any more power (prolly less) then your stock ranger engine unless its a 2.0,2.3, or worn out 2.8L then you might see a gain.

My 2.8 isnt worn out, had a vehicle with a 200 in it and it would kick my rangers ass. Of course I sold the car to my brother in law and hes turning it into a demo car. He called me today to tell me what the inside of the engine looked like and said that the camshaft was worn down, the gears for the timing chain were the same way and the bearings were so so. I have no clue how many miles were on the engine but it ran like a charm depite the wear on it. They are boring it over and keeping standrad rings and pistons in it so that it wont seize up when it gets hot during demo time, like his 302 did. They can only run water, no anti-freeze is allowed. Cant wiat to see that car go boom and get destroyed.

My point, I would take a 200 over a 2.9, 3.0, and mabey a 4.0. A 300 would be taken over all of them even the 2.8.

is there a web site that gives engine dimensions? i, too, would like a straight 6 in place of my 2.8. if it would fit and i could find the adapters, even the old dodge slant 6 would be an interesting swap. another would be the old Jeep 230ci Tornado OHC straight 6. had one in an old 1963 wagon and it was a beast! tons of torque and plenty of hp as well for that big, heavy wagon.
just can't find a diesel with enough power and light enough in weight to swap in. although i am tempted to try and find one of those Pugeot/Jeep turbo diesels from the mid 80's Cherokee's. having driven one of those for a short time, i was impressed with it's power.

^run by the same guy, but TONS of info on specifically (you guessed it) Ford I6's. And there's a forum

That motor looks sweet in that. If I had to put another motor in my ranger I would put an inline 6 in.

wasn't there a guy doing a 2JZ swap into a ranger?

Where do you get the 5.4L makes 390ftlbs of torque?

If you compare a 97 5.4L to a 96 300 I6 your looking at 325ftlbs@3000RPM (or so) and 265ftlbs@1600RPM. (or so)

A 96 351 will embarass a 5.4L in the torque dept.

Im with seven second, the 300 is a STOUT motor for lugging and pulling. On the highway yes a 5.4L will walk them. But who really needs to pull that much weight 80MPH anyways?

Will, as much as you like to think it is your Honda cannot play with the big boys. Its a minivan based SUV. It will not outpull, outwork, out wheel, or out whatever any F series truck, or variation thereof.

The 300 is probely the best engine ever built. Talking to a ford dealer they had a few come in for cash for clunkers, they dumped that shit in them to ruin the engine, drained the oil, and put a block on the acclerator pedal. Most engines ran 10-15 seconds he said. The 300 would run (on average) 4-5mins. Block Cherry red, head cherry red, and it just kept on going. Your hondas beer can engine would of melted.

later,
Dustin

thank you! couldnt have said it better myself!
