Ok well i was cruising the internet and came upon this...
http://www.ehow.com/how_2343886_index-spark-plugs-better-performanceeconomy.html
In theory i guess i can understand it, but it seems a little strange...has anyone ever tried this? Or even heard of it? I gotta change my plugs soon so i was just wondering. Sounds interesting to say the least. Oh and im just talking about the drilling, i know what indexing is.

Interesting article, I'm curious see what people have to say. Sounds like a good theory (but so do so many other things...)....

it cant really be a scam... they arent gaining anything by you doing this. you arent spending big bucks on special plugs either.

now that doesnt mean it will or wont work.... i've never heard of this, it's hard to say.

Hows it a scam? it didn't cost anything to read, and ponder on your own.

I imagine the hole will get packed with carbon before long anyways though.

Eh, I doubt it would be worth the time or effort to do it... I mean, I wouldn't go through all that trouble for 0.5mpg...

things like this always lead me to asking if it works why don't the manufacturers do it already?

maybe i'm just skeptical! :)

it doesn't look cost/time effective from the factory.... to change tools, and assembly for a modification that no-one can tell is there.
Now........ if it works or not is beyond me. but that is one excuse that they don't do it.

Not sure about drilling the electrode but haven't some of the top racers been indexing their plugs for years now? From the factory, as said, not cost effective.

Bunch of horseshit.

Side gapping plugs was another miracle thing.

Also horseshit.

Mac; about the top racers indexing their plugs for years, yes some do it, BUT you have to remember racers are also some of the most superstitious people out there. I've run with guys who thought that removing the plastic valve stem caps off there car made them faster.

my friends uncle wont race on full moons

the point to drilling the hole in the ground electrode is simple, the spark will jump from the point of least resistance.

As pointed out by Nicola Tesla Voltage jumps much more easily from a sharp edge.

a round hole in the center electrode provides a 360degree circle of "sharp edge"

The "dimple" in the center electrode does the same thing.

Indexing? I've got indexing rings set up for a couple of my old Saab heads, I've never bothered on a low revving non boosted V6.

well for me todo this in my ranger is not worth the time, effort or the damn hassle!
reason behind that is because 4 of the 8 plugs are behind my intake manifold!
so to even see a little black line would make it impossible!
im sure some of the 95 4cyl owners understand what im taking about!
its hard enough to get your swivel socket in there & find the plug & even harder to put the plug into the hole!

Good to hear what everyone says, i'm so tempted to do this but im a sucker for everything that sounds good:dunno::D: But my shaky hands might not be able to pull it off correctly...if i do i'll try to remember to post results. Indexing i get and makes sense (i don't expect lots of improvement but in theory sounds good) but the drilling and such ...never heard of it before, sounds kinda interesting
