Has anyone ever taken a rear-end apart?

I have a ford 9in and I can't seem to yank the axles out. How hard should it be? :icon_confused:I've already taken the four axleshaft retaining nuts behind the flange off through the hole.

You might need a puller of some sort, slide hammer.
Most likely the races are rusted in.

smack the center of the axle with a large hammer and be careful not to hit the studs

yeah...i have taken alot of em apart.....with the engine:icon_rofl:

I got it all buttoned up today and all filled with new fluid.

Thank you for the hammer trick. After that it came right out. It probably was the rust.

Also I didn't remove the brass washers for the center chunk which was necessary after all. It just wouldn't come out with the washers on.
