I picked up a 1986 4x4 diesel Ranger yesterday. It is a clean truck that supposedly had a bad engine. It turns out it just needs a crank shaft pully. If the engine was bad I was going to use the engine out my 86 two wheel drive as a donor. Fortunately I will not have to do that as it is a great little truck.
I found this part is not available. I found a service that will repair the key way
for about $130. I would prefer to find a new or used pulley. A guy here in town has a 4x4 truck for sale with three extra engines but he will not part them out. The part number for this pulley is E5TZ6312A. It was used in other engines untill 1990.
My question is, is this type of repair an acceptable solution? We will have our snow soon and it will sure be nice to get this truck on the road.
