I recently replaced a broken timing belt on a '97 2.3 liter 4banger, and it now has a small miss that I can't figure out. It "stumbles" when throttle is depressed, or coughs when you step on the gas, and then accelerates. Refering to the Haynes Repair Manual chapter 2 part A .15 "Pull the belt up ( pulling slack from between camshaft sprocket and the auxlilary shaft/oil pump sprocket and install it on the camshaft sprocket in a counterclockwise direction" Well. in going over and over this part of the project in my mind,. I think that I may have gone "clockwise" instead. Felt the camshaft sprocket move a tiny bit when I wraped the belt around it, then settle back. My question is; IF I did go the wrong direction, would the engine still run and if it runs, would doing as I described ( wrapping the wrong direction ) cause that stumble? The last code pulled read "left bank lean" Any idea what that means?
