I have a 86 2.3 efi Ranger. It usde to start on the first turn of the key, now it can take anywhere from 2 to 8 cranks before it catches and keeps idling. Have changed IAC valve and cleaned throttle body, but did no good. Any suggestions would be a real help. Thanks

Check your pulley system. On my fiancee's '99 Cavalier, the idler pulley had a bad bearing, which caused this exact problem. Just last night, I replaced the pulley and, once the belt was put back on, it immediately fired on the first try (first crank).

Also, just some info--your truck doesn't have an IAC valve. Idle is controlled by the timing and the vacuum through the EGR system. At least, that's the way my '92 is set up. :)
