I would like to change my hard lines, major corrosion, and over haul the master cylinder. The chilton and hanyns go over these steps in some detail but there is a section that worries me, the part that states some 4 wheel ABS systems require the abs scan tool to bleed the master. I was wondering if my system was one of those and how do i tell? I have a 95 ranger STX v6 4.0 4x4, power everything, manual locking hubs, and automatic trans. also if anybody know the diamiter of the lines that would be awesome because again mine are so corroded i can't get a good measurement.

Thanks in advance

if yours were like mine i can understand. the lines should be a standard 3/8 in line but the factory lines had that odd ribbed stuff all over it.

the only thing i can warn you of is the master cylinder has two different size fittings. what i mean is one is a bigger thread then the other but both accept the same line. this was a shock when i redid mine and we had to reuse the old fitting (a drill bit and a little TLC got the old line out of the fitting).

as far as the ABS unit, you should be okay so long as your not disconnecting the lines at the outlet end. to be on the safe side you could get some plastic stoppers and plug up the inlets so the fluid doesnt leak out significantly.

if you do, however have problems you should be able to bleed the brakes normally, and worst case scenario is a ford dealership will charge you about 50 bucks to hook it up and bleed it electronically for you.

It's 3/16" brake line, not 3/8...

ahhh you beat me too it lol

as for the bleeding the brakes thing.... abs is not that big of a deal. bleed the truck like you would normally. start with the right rear then left rear then right front then left front. you always start with the furthest tire. once you get all the air out of the lines and if the abs is giving you problems you have to bleed the system again but you have to bleed them at each fitting on the abs. so make sure all the air is out of the lines between the master cylinder and abs module. then bleed the fittings at the actually brakes again starting with the furthest. that works 9 out of 10 times. if you have any other questions pm me. i am on here every morning before work and after work at least once or twice a night lol
