if it were me, i would take the cover off of it, and suspend at some odd angle with fishing line, inside of a plexiglass box, with blue and green leds shining at it, and wires running from the edge of the box to the HD, with extra slack...

if it uses a ribbon cord, make sure to separate each wire so that it looks like it's some evil experiment

kinda like this, but more evil looking! :)

SATA I/II and 3.5" are the only specs you need to worry about. Newegg has a ton of enclosures for $20 shipped that will do the job.

My buddy recommended this one to me. Has the correct connections that I will need to run the hard drive so I will end up getting it.

Plus nothing says that I can't play with the case and integrat a fan into it. I do have an external computer power supply that can do a few things for me. Thinking about hooking it up to a old style 360 that I got that has yet to see xbl.

Its got to be submerged in mineral oil. :icon_thumby:

Elaborate...

If you dont have a spinning disk drive then dont put it in mineral oil. Mineral oil doesn't conduct electricity and is a great way to cool a computer. Look up mineral oil computers on youtube. They even sell kits to put them into fish tanks.

so you're saying put this bodyless, spinning hard drive, in a plexiglass box, with creepy looking lights, and fill it with mineral oil?

edit: reading into oil submersion, it looks as though mineral oil will cause a platter drive to fail...

It will. No spinning disk drive of any kind are to be put into the mineral oil. The mother board fans on it, etc... can be. But you will need to run a radiator cooler and pump will be needed to circulate the oil. Mineral oil doesn't conduct electricity making it perfect for doing this.

The down side. If you need our want to change out something that is in the oil, prepare to get your hands messy.

I'm not looking to put anything into mineral oil, I'm just going to use the hard drive given to me as an external unit for my movies and whatnot so they aren't jamming up my laptops hard drive. Plus an external drive can be used top back up files quickly. It doesnt need an OS on it, its like a USB unit only larger in size, capcity, and whatnot. Any computer hard drive can be made into this even an old laptops, basicly giving the old hard drive another life.

Yep that's what I did with my old laptop drive. Basically I paid $5 for an 80 gig USB drive that is still very portable and requires no power (laptop drives can be powered by usb)

I have an HP laptop I dont really use due to a multi screen issue caused by the graphics card and mother board so it may see the samething happen to it and I may part out whats left someday. Has if I remember right a 120gig hard drive.
