Hey all. So I am turning my '97 into a trail rig and am in the process of getting 5spd swap parts collected and plan is to make half doors and the thing I have noticed about that is when you lean on your left leg it makes it hard to operate the clutch pedal and so my though is to make lever next to the drivers seat between the door. And what my initial thoughts are is to use a cable and run it under the cab and back in through the firewall and attach it to the clutch pedal and go that route so when you pull up on the lever it engages the clutch. could even go one step further I guess and put a twist throttle on it like a motorcycle if I wanted. any thoughts? Suggestions? People done it? Thanks all

I think your on your own with this one. i find it much easier to just run the clutch with my foot than it would be with my hand specially when i'm trying to steer and keep and hand free for possiable banging gear's first to reverse.

LOL yeah, its been so long since I've wheeled a manual i'm probably worrying about something I shouldn't

yeah I think it would be trick but that's about it. dont think it would get utilized very often. you get pretty used to covering the clutch pedal even with half door's unless your hanging half way out of it which shouldnt be done anyhow.

too complicated guys . I would not ride with this shit ,mostly, I did not have a hand on the steering wheel

give one of those ugly work . not tell me ,I know

You could try using a hydraulic master cylinder from say...a CBR 1000RR, but who knows if it'll work.

Yeah I wouldn't either, What I thought was have the cable go through the floor and you would pull up on the lever to use the clutch and then it would come up through the firewall and pull the pedal down. I don't think that would be unsafe in anyway shape or form. Where as a linkage that could bind and prevent pushing in the pedal with your foot would be a danger

My thought has always been that a hand clutch on a truck with a manual transmission is really only meant for someone with three hands.

Hand throttle is a much better idea. Good luck actuating the clutch by hand in a short enough range of motion to make practical.

Thanks for all the input guys, I will probably go with a hand throttle. For some reason when I dreamed up the clutch idea I hadn't been in my truck for days and probably will be awhile before I can drive it but I could look in the window today and realized its a lot smaller than I think.:-) Thank you for your ideas and thats why I love TRS!

Try something like the BIMBA M-121 5-DQ PNEUMATIC AIR CYLINDER. I have used it on a AX-15 for the slave cyl. Another time I have seen it used on a racing VW bug to slow the slip of the clutch too.

I can verify the cylinder type and model when I get home. It was about $20 shipped.

I realize this is probably not gonna happen, but the hand controls from a vehicle set-up for the disabled might do the trick, they usually only have throttle and brake set-ups but I bet it wouldn't be difficult to make it work the clutch.

I wouldn't go through the trouble to add such a thing unless I was missing my left leg and I was crazy enough to want to still drive stick. :P

honestly, no offense, but i think this is a dumb idea... if you are off camber enough that you can't sit right, and can't operate your pedals, then it's time to look into new seats, 5-6 point harnesses, arm and leg restraints... they will keep you sitting in the truck, and operating it like you should be... and would be better to control the veihcle the way it's designed, and help in the safety department
