Im trying to get a friends 87 2.9 running. it has fresh fuel, spark, compression
new module. it tries to start, kind of runs but misses like crazy. I decided to check that the sp wires were on all the way, and they are, heres were things have me totaly baffled. Passenger exhaust manifold hot to touch ( burnt my fingers) drivers side all cold like the hole side isnt firing. now I havent checked for spark w/ my inline tester yet, and the other issue was I had to hot wire the fuel pump and pump out 5 gallons of old gas through the shrader valve on the fuel rail. added fresh gas, pumped a little more through, and attempted to start it and it misses as stated above.

any help would be greatly appreciated, Rob

Sounds like only one bank of injectors is firing. IIRC the computer fires 3 injectors at a time. #1,2, and 4 fire together and 3,5, and 6 together. Check for power at the injectors with ign on and see if you can get a noid light to check if the computer is firing the injectors.

Ok Ill try that this am and let yall know

Yeah, I'm with Derek. The 2.9s and early 4.0s used batch-fire injectors, where it fires the whole bank every time. On a distributor engine you are really unlikely to loose fire on an entire side instead of only 1 cylinder or all 6. I'd be looking first to see if the injectors are actually firing, and if they are, you may need to yank the upper intake and pull the fuel rail, see if it's plugged on that side.

OK so I have spark at all six, injectors have power. Pulled the plugs on the drivers bank, and they were soaked.. Burned them w/a match, wire brushed them, now it runs better, but still missing and sputering, then dies. So any thoughts?

That is really weird. Pickup module maybe? But that would probably affect injector firing too....

Do you have good spark or weak spark?

I would pull the injectors and the fuel rail to make sure that the injectors are not sticking open from rust or such. Best thing to do would to get the injectors bench tested if you can.

The spark is excellent, nice bright blue. I was thinking injectors also, just didnt want to go there. Thanks for your help guys, Ill keep you posted.
