had my truck broken into

when i had my v8 ranger, the key stayed right in the ignition for like 3 years. but that was cuz i was affraid id lose it. i wouldnt even know where to begin to get a key made and programmed for that. lol. also, i would have to agree that if the doors were unlocked, i would be less likely to have a broken window. lol

okay, i filed a police report...had to wait all day for one of my dads friends(a cop)...to come over and talk to me about it. he sayd that the town over from me had a string of burgalries in their town, but didnt catch the suspects. he then told me a cop down the street from my house had his car broken into, and a house the next street over from me was broken into....so im SOL with the stuff i lost. until them catch them., so anyone want to send me a gps for christmas????

The "proper tool" would be the door lock.

Sorry to read it, Scott. Glad nothing was damaged.
Really? Gee, I didn't know what those were for...

FYI, defeating anything less than a properly installed keyed deadbolt on a home door is ridiculously simple. It's more to keep honest people honest than to actually stop someone.

That's just crazy to leave keys in vehicles, regardless of where you live.

well we've got a swather, 3 trucks, 2 tractors, 2 semi's, like 3 cars... all with keys in em almost all the time haha. thats what happens when ya live in the country:icon_twisted:

look on the bright side

all i have to say is WTF?!:shok::icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

sorry about all that stuff. i'd be pissed, but i'm almost counting down the days till i get broken into:dunno:

And that is why I never carry original cd's in my truck. First thing I do when I buy a new CD is to take it home, rip it onto my comp and burn a copy. Sure, the copies don't hold up all that well, but I can make a lot of copies of a disk for the $15 a replacement would cost (and I have a few cd's that are hard to replace).

The only time original CD's are in my truck is during the trip home
from Best-Buy/Target/Walmart/Coconuts or wherever the hell I
bought them.

I will not even play them in the truck.

As for the GPS? I just found out that the Magellan GPS I bought two years ago cost less to replace than the map update software I nearly bought for it.
$79 for the Map Update software (spring 2009) and $59 for another identical GPS.

The similar current model is smarter, faster has four times the
points of interest (6million as opposed to 1.5million) and is $89.

so don't cry yourself to sleep over it unless you bought it VERY recently.

thats why anything of value in my truck is bolted down or locked up with a 10,000lb chain even then if they have the time, nothing will stop em from getting to it.
Id like to install a hidden kill switch.

And there was more break ins, robberies, vandalism, and even murders in my hometown in north east Nebraska then there are in my neighborhood in Denver.

i found another thing out which is when put in alarms in trucks or cars they most of time put in a little blinking light to tell people that you have alarm in your truck.. Well they found out that if you pull out the led and short out the wire with a battery it disable the alarm and now your alarm is not worth shit !!! I found this out because my buddy car was trying be stolen but it had no fuel pump so it was not going any where lucky for him and he show how they disabled the alarm..
Lock ,alarms, glass, and alarms are only to slow the thief , not stop him and these thing only stop the honest person and where there is a will there is a way!!!!!

CDs? They get ripped, dumped on my MP3 player and that's it. I don't even buy them anymore--I buy the MP3s and download them.

Anyway, I leave my keys in the ignition. It's not crazy. You'd have to be totally whacked to come up my hill to break into a car. And if you did, I'd rather you just drove it away and not tried the house. Situations are all different. One night when my brother lived in town, someone busted all the car windows down the street. My brother started leaving the doors unlocked to avoid the $300 cost if it happened again.

wow man that sucks! lucky me rats dont like ford over here :d so im safe...kinda, they say its to hard to break into so they just pass em, and besides with full black tinted windows they dont get much of whats inside.

whats the antenna trick anyways? good to know if my brother or mom leaves the keys inside and doors lock, i carry an extra key on my wallte and have one hidden somewhere in the truck :D

.

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer a physical CD.
That way I have a hard archive copy that is not
subject to loss due to computer or hard-drive failure.

I trust MY compression and choice of bitrate more than I trust
amazon/napster/iTunes/etc...

External hard drives can fail too. The best storage methods are on original CDs and DVDs or things like those little flash drives that have no moving parts.

I have two rubber-coated, water/dust/shock resistant flash drives I use all the time. But I don't usually store stuff on 'em other than a few files that I need.
