What if you took a Dana 30 front axle(Jeep), and ground off the welds at the pumpkin, and replaced it with a dana 35 (jeep rear axle) pumpkin, then maybe put dana 44(full width) outers on it wouldn't that be pretty strong?:icon_welder:

Why not just use a Dana 44 ? In my opinion that would be a waste of time.

You would end up with a LP axle in the end. Just do a D44 or if you have all the parts laying around then go for it.

total waste of time

Im confused, why would you grind off the D30 outers to use a D35 center section with D44 outers on it? Why would you mess with the D30 when none of the axle is used with it for the hybrid? Not no mention you would be better off using the D30 with D44 outers then a D35.

I was just saying that because the dana 30 would already be setup as a front (steerable) axle, and I have heard dana 35's (using just the center section) can hold up fairly well, and I thought the dana 30 and 35 had the same sized axle shafts and, if you used dana 44 outers (like some people do on TTB D35's) I thought it would just be a neat idea.

I think he was going for a D35 soild front axle with D44 outters, I dont know if there is such a thing as a D35 soild axle soooo....., but it would be LP though.

So it would be a D35 pumkin with D30 axle tubes with D44 outters....that way more more work then needed, I've read somewhere that you can put D44 outters on a D30 and that looked like a headach in its own to do.....

But like he said its only a thought....

Heres another.....is a LP D35 stronger then a HP D30 (assuming so) and by how much? I know your sacraficing ground clearance using a LP D35 but still.....just leave out the D44outters of my thought to make stuff simpler.
Like he said...just a thought.

I was even thinking just leave out 44 outers if the simplicty was maybe better than marginaly more strength(I don't know if d30 outers are stronger than 44 outers), oh and sorry, I didn't realize the d35 rear axle was a low pinion.

D30 are not stronger then D44 outters. Yes rear ends are low pinions. LP are stronger on rear axles and HP are stronger on front axles.

This idea is going no where. D35 rear jeep axles are incredibly weak. No one uses them in front applications and they try not to use them in rear applications. The D35 your thinking of is most likely the TTB D35 not the jeep axle. Your trying to mix axles that most people try to avoid entirely. A D30 with D44 outers would be possible as the large Ujoint D30's share the same Ujoint as D44's (minus EB), why you would want to go through all that work when a D44 would be better, you got me.

No hes think the rear D35 and so was I. Point is its an idea, thats it but as far as going any furture, dont see it happening. Like everything it started as an idea, just like a SAS on a ranger, people think "are you crazy that will never work." Look where it is today. He could have said what about an 8.8 on the front.

The 8.8 would be an idea worth pursuing, but an idea to combine a bunch of crappy axles to make a hybrid crappy axle is not something that should be pursued. The Hybrid idea itself is a good one though.

But now we need to find somebody to do it........
