im making my truck into a semi prerunner. dont need a huge amount of extra travel but enough where i may need to tuck the wheels that are widened with spacers in the rear. i dont want to spend a ton of money on fiberglass bedsides that look retarded so i did some pondering and had a brilliant idea. im surprised i havent seen anyone suggest it yet on any forum. so heres my plan. take a normal size ranger box. drill the spot welds and take off the sides. i can get a box at the local junkyard for 100 bucks. take the fiberglass bedsides from a stepside and bolt them to your now sideless truck box. should add 6-8 inches in the rear. if i get the time ill do it and take some pics but due to the weather were really behind at work. so the total cost for this mod for me would be 2 beds for 200 plus tax and a tailgate for 50. it would keep stock ranger looks and be a lot cheaper than aftermarket. you can also find bedsides that dont even need to get painted!

There's a member on here that built a diesel duelly ranger, he did exactly what you are talking about. Might have some pointers. I'll try and find the thread for ya.

stepside beds would look goofy as hell on a full width bed. hell, they look goofy as hell on the narrow beds.

Have you seen billydiesels rig? It looks pretty sharp
