Hopfully the wife won't mind me using the kitchen floor...LOL

no problem...kitchen floor's fine for getting things cut and ready....but i hope you've got a garage or at least a carport to do the nasty work.that resin gets pretty smelly.

yea I've got a garage but it's used more as a storage unit than garaging anything except I store my tools in there.

Tell her that it's filled with her crap I have about 10 foot by 5 foot space for me to work on things at the front of the garage but thats it.

Being single isn't all that bad. For valentine's day I'm going to go through airport security and pretend I'm enjoying it way too much. That should be fun!

I have no garage. I am garageless. Completely barren in the area of garages. I have a nice, flat driveway, and a 12x12 storage building that's basically a toolbox with a roof. No room to build a garage, either. My lack of garageability sux.

im having the same problem with a garage... i cleaned ours out took 3 trips to the dump in my ranger stacked to the roof $100 later.... it was clean and actually ready to use as a garage! got all my tools arranged welder set up air compressor set up then 2 days later dad got all his matco crap and filled it from front to back up 6ft high... still havnt gotten it back 2 years later.

i do like the cardboard box idea though i gotta fiberglass a fan shroud. whats the chances of it catching fire though?

this is something you really need to be aware of.

i use a new heater....they have better safeguards on most of them now than in the past.make absolutely certain that it isn't contacting anything, and has some room for hot air to dissipate-in other words,it's not blowing an inch away from the fiberglass.usually when i do this i'll set up something big enough that i can elevate the part i'm working on and have the heater's discarge blowing in the space underneath.
a small openning near the top will help gasses vent out too, three or four square inches is fine.

if doing this in a garage with a door, make sure to have it ventilated well,or the fumes will be thick.

started cutting plywood for the bracing.this is just 1/2'' sheathing.notice that i've put the mold back over the plug.while it appears that the resin is fully set,it isn't.if it isn't held at this point it can warp and then everything you've done till now is wasted time and material.

gt6002-69.jpg

getting the bracing bonded to the mold.the bracing serves two functions-it holds the shape of the mold stable, but it also becomes a base so the mold sits steady while in use.

gt6003-68.jpg

the bonding isn't too fancy-i just use strips about 3-4'' wide to put it all together.when the resin sets enough,i'll flip it over and do the other side.then it's just the final trimming and cleanup, and it's ready for use.

gt6004-46.jpg

and that's the mold ready to use.you'll notice that the top and bottom plates have been trimmed back.the top plate will be added after as it would be too hard to roll out the glass in the space between the licence plate recess and the plate.the bottom plate is unneeded.

i also decided not to fix those wrinkles on the end...the marks left by them on the finished part will be easier to fix than the mold.

here's how the bracing looks when done.the mold sits steady now,and will be easy to use.i'll put some pva on it today, and spray gellcoat tomorrow morning.by tomorrow night i should have my first part from it.
