nice! so now you just need to fix the wrinkles, make sure that there's no no dips or anything caused by airbubbles, and lay in some fiber?

ya,some regular cleanup on the edges and those little wrinkles are nothing.

still gotta cut some plywood bracing and glass that on,then it's time to lay up the first part.

nice! it's looking good, your plug looks professional for sure!

I'm glad that turned out well, looks good. Is the mould reasonably rigid or are you planning on adding some bracing to it.
I'll add a comment the aerodynamic discussion. the flat floor will probably make up for the carbs sticking through the hood.

bracing is always needed on a mold.the heat cycles from laying up parts would cause it to warp over time.and yes,the flat bottom will make a notable improvement to the overall drag figures.

he's just sayin it's gonna be fast:D

might be right,too.

What he said. I'll blame it onhaving been up for close to 24 hours and having my brain fried by trig homework and test.

Gwaii, I'm glad you know what you're doing on that plug and mold stuff. To me that mold looks like it'd tear up trying to remove it from the final product. Maybe it's sturdier than I realize, because I still don't get how you were able to remove it from the plug without breaking. I know the mold release helped but still...

ahh...trig.pretty useful stuff:icon_thumby:

the fiberglass that the mold is made from is pretty tough,so there's not much risk of it breaking-though some care is still needed.the plug,on the other hand is really quite delicate,so it's a given from the start that it will be damaged on removing the mold.care on dressing the edges of the mold and making sure there aren't any surface imperfections that could hold the final part will ensure a clean seperation without damaging the mold or the part.

i know this is going to sound dumb, but if you were to prep the mold properly, could you spray your clear on, then your base coat, then your primer, then start laying your glass on top of that, so when you separate the final product from the mold, it's already painted and cleared?

of course it would probably get scratched while removing it from the mold, but still makes me wonder if it would be possible... i would think the resin from the glass should stick to the paint as well as the paint is supposed to stick to the resin if applied normally...

it sounds good in theory(and i used to wonder about it as well)but the gellcoat going right on the paint would cause the paint to wrinkle up.the seraration provided by having the layer of wax and pva between them is what saves the paint.i did some experimenting years ago and found out why no one does this.

good to see the thought process being used, though.it demonstrates a good understanding of the concept:icon_thumby:

there's so much stuff that i say that people don't seem to understand....i'm just happy when it makes sense to someone:headbang:

my dad says you're special,too:icon_thumby:

Which means you're extra awesome.

All my dad does is try to seduce 20-25 year olds, even though he's almost 60.

I'll have to take your word for it and hope it comes in useful somewhere down the road. Right now it's only use seems to be in giving me headaches. Speech class isn't helping any either on that end.

I had wandered about that. I'd ask for more details on the bracing, but something says you'll be giving them anyway. I'll just sit back and watch the show.

My dad just gives me a look similar to this :annoyed: and shakes his head like this guy :no2: . Keeps saying I'll understand someday, personally I don't know what he's talking about. :dunno: Seems to happen most when taking about what I want to do to my truck.
