Gt-12

ok,just bit the bullet.

i ordered the tires, should be here in a week or so.

one finger hunt-and-peck.:D

and a lot of back-delete for corrections.

that's why i put up so many pictures-each one is supposed to be worth a thousand words,so that's a lot of typing saved.

LOL, Sigged

cool....i think that's about the fourth sig that came off this thread alone.:headbang:

maybe more.

been figureing things out for the past couple of days.got back to cutting metal today.

gt6002-18.jpg

tacked up the strut mount today, this allows me to move around the wheel a little more securely, and look for problem areas.

i also have been playing with the steering.

gt6003-22.jpg

i dropped the tie rod position, just tacked to try it out.this improved the bump steer, and would probably be good enough to run it this way,but i'm still not happy with it.i think i'll be re figuring the lower arm.

gt6004-12.jpg

the hood put back into place to make sure it still fits over the strut mounts, and the first time the wheels are bolted up with it on.still can't be certain till the tires get here, but i think i'll be doing a little fender opening work.there's also a couple of spots on the frame/cage that look like some modification will be needed.

we'll see when the tires get here, should be next week.

it looks mean with the hood on! the size of the car makes those rims look so much bigger than 17s. definately gonna be a head turner. amazing work man.

Totally tubular, gwaii! :D

how are you going to see out of that thing!

how are you going to see out of that thing!

sitting in the driver's seat,it's a cool(if not very panoramic)view.the windshield is a tiny slit to begin with, stick a couple of hollys in the way,and the view to the right is a little comprimised.

i'll get by,though.:icon_thumby:

dude. im sitting here in in bum F**k gwang ju korea and spent 20 mins to see the last 3 pages of this thread cause the internet is so freakin slow but it was worth it. I cant wait to see what it looks and sounds like when it fires up........good work so far man

i was just thinking....theres not much on the last three pages, mostly random chat.

well, hopefully you can get back to the real world soon....or at least get a better connection, because there's a lot of pictures to come yet.

i've been getting frustrated trying to measure everything off the cowl that isn't there.since it's what the hood latches to,the doors hang off,and the dash-and with it-steering column attatch to,it's too critical to to just pretend it's there.

gt6001-22.jpg

i can't fit the body in the house(well,i can't get it through the front door, anyway)but i have a plan.

the gt6 is based on the spitfire body, which is a convertible.it retains the spitfire windshield frame,

gt6002-19.jpg

which is bolted to the roof and the cowl.this is the most critical point where the cowl is joined to the rest of the body, and i would not want to cut this.

gt6003-23.jpg

once the windshield frame is unbolted, the only thing holding the cowl to the rest of the body will be the rockers.the floor will not be used from this body.i have no problem cutting these.

gt6004-13.jpg

there....that was easy.

gt6005-13.jpg

amasingly, all that holds the windshield to the roof is these two bolts.at least there's five on the bottom.

gt6006-8.jpg

and it's in the house.still needs some stripping and trimming, but it's here.this should make things easier.

Looking forward to seeing how this latest advancement pans out. Good luck Tom!

I have a question, If you cant fit the body into the place you are building this car how is the car going to ever get out?

panned out good.

with the cowl in position,i was able to find where i did good, and what needs adjustment.the temporary steering column mount i put in lined up exactly with the one on the dash.
the top cage bar on the windshield can go higher.this is a good thing.
the hood is sitting a little further back than i had figured,so i'll need to tweak the openning for the carbs.no big deal,it's just tacked anyway(like i said before-everything just gets tacked untill i've confirmed the location of everything.then i can weld it all up)

having the cowl in place is going to make fitting stuff up way easier.as i said, everything is hung off of this piece,so it's location is critical to having everything fit on this car.
