got a 98 ranger 2.9 v6, previous owner transplanted a '91 2.9. having trouble getting it to run right. how do we get the '91 to get along with the older EEC

Welcome to TRS~!

A bit confused...your profile says an 89 and you typed 98...if it is an 89 with a 92 2.9 then things are not too bad...but 98 wiring...well...gonna take some work.

There are people on here very familiar with the 2.9 and they should be able to tell you what you need...but I'd think a clarification is needed first...and maybe pics of the engine bay if possible.

Yeah, sorry bout the typo. My ranger is 89, not 98. Trying to get a 91 2.9 to play nice with a 89 truck. Do we need to put '89 sensors in the motor to fool the EEC? ---or upgrade the EEC to match the input,,, or none of the above???

89 and 91 parts should be directly compatible, so there ought to be no need to change sensors or wiring or computers.

OK, thanks, Got the truck in hospital, they've got her running, but still misfiring, seems to be fuelling wrong. replaced injectors, all ignition parts, etc. but no joy. Bummer when you think you're bringing it to someone you'd expect should know more than me, and they're not coming up with the solution. Meanwhile they still wanna get their $.....
