Grill/Extension Installation

I searched the forums but was unable to locate an answer so here goes: I bought a stock plastic grill and extenders (the pieces that extend out from the grill and fit over the headlights) for my 96 Ranger. The grill install appears pretty straightforward but I'm having trouble with the extenders. Is there a trick to getting these things to fit correctly without breaking them? I'd appreciate any help out there. Thanks.
