I've recently pulled out my 93 Ranger XL with 160k from storage after finding out that my 2005 Ram "Tough" pick up couldn't hold its own with a telephone pole after all. Those commercials are so misleading!!

At any rate.. my Ranger that I've had since new, was a little pissed that I woke it from its slumber. There have been a number of things.. no matter how small or large, that I've had to replace that i could of swore worked fine when I parked it 5 or so yrs ago. Take my insulation for starters.. could of swore it was where I left it.. still doing a fine job at it's insulating post doing what insulation does. Nope! It was in my tranny. Yup.. crawled through the service gromet and into my tranny it went. Mind you my tranny had babies.. in the form of RATS! THANKFULLY there has been no wiring issues..YET!

I did park it with a fairly beat (2nd) clutch so that was one of the first things on the list. I am far from done and still have some bugs (or rats) to work out of it but it will be my everyday drive and inspection is coming.

So far (that I can remember)....

New clutch pack, throwout, yadda yadda yadda
New ring gear of flywheel and shimmed
New starter (not a fun time)
New U-Joints
New Tie rod ends
New Upper balls
New brakes (cut rotors and new drum rebuild
New Wheel seals
New Driver side cab mount
New epoxy-covered hole in floor (lol)
New Gabriel Gas Shocks
New go-kart styled steering wheel
New Sunpro Tach
New Horn button relocation (footswitch)
New MAF
New Turn Signal Stalk
New wires & plugs (although I still got a miss somewhere)
1 new coil pack
New off the autozone shelf pre-bent tubing w/muffler
New fuel pump and filter

Any advice I can get to rebuild this thing even before it breaks (like if its a known problem) would be great. Thanks. Maybe I could help others as well

Hey thanks I appreciate that anyway. I have a miss I have to work out of it yet (seems to be a popular problem in reading some posts on the 2.3) and the RAD supports (2 bushings and a bolt.. one on each side ) slam like hell on the front end when I hit just about any kind of rough bump.. or ripple for that matter. Than there is the matter of cosmetics.. cant wait not to replace the front fender. Looks like a sucky job

Thanks again

Yo!!! Welcome from northeastern PA! If ya need help and I'm free I'll lend a hand.

Note: I also work at 2 parts stores so if ya need hard to find parts let me know, I can usually dig something up.

The front fender isn't so bad to replace from what I remember, it's relatively easy.. Few bolts on the top of fender under the hood, one or so at the bottom of the fender, and there might be a couple in the door frame area. There's a few screws holding the the plastic inner lining to the fender. Also, on some models you might have to unbolt the facia that's under the headlight assembly to replace the fender. I replaced a few on my old 89. As long as you don't have accident damage it should be easy for you to accomplish.
I'm glad to see there are a few up here in the North East corner of PA. I'm about ten minutes from hanover twp. Good luck with your mechanical restoration!

Welcome! Another "newbie" from NEPA here, Milford actually!

Yo thats great to know I will have to keep that in mind. And thanks for the welcome and the hand if need be. She's nothing special.. mind you the wife would love if I sold it for scrap.. but I've had it so long honey..... It's worth more in just memories alone!

Thanks for the heads up. It was a stupid move how the fender got tweaked to begin with. Add in some anger and a channel lock from hell and said fender looks like a side scoop in front of the driverside door. In short the vehicle was being pushed by hand backwards and the door caught something and tweaked it back. I straightened out the door but the fender was hitting it (enter anger).. the rest is history.

I just looked at all the crap on attached to the inner fender and dreaded it. Conveniently enough I'm close to a Harry's you pull it salvage yard .. I just never pulled one

Well I'll be,. All these locals above and below.. well to the side really. But thats cool. Not that I see myself hanging out in my beat ranger for the hell of it at the moment. BUT.. I'd like to get it somewhat respectable again. Even if it is the "No Frills" version of the truck. Essentially the window sticker just had a big fat NO and a cheap price tag when all I needed at the time was a bed to haul a quad in. Now its something that, after beating into the ground in my younger years, that I wan't to try and salvage. As much as I hate driving it sometimes when soccer moms blow my doors off. And that I cant go wheelin in it..not that i didn't try..ALOT! Maybe I can turn it into a sharp truck without going slammed or too street in general. I have some ideas. Its cool that I'm not at it alone. Thanks for the warm welcome guys!
