guys i gotta do a grad project i think im goin to restore my dads 66 mustang or i was thinking bout buying my own 2wd ranger and put a 302 in it making it a drag truck not sure which would be cheaper/easier

Doing the Ranger would be cheaper, but the Mustang would have much more value in the long run. Not just monetary value either.

Sure a lot depends on the shape of the Mustang to begin with. You can easily spend 2K just reparing rusted out cowl area. Apron below the battery is usually another spot. Replacing all the old window belting and all the other little things add up real quick. Inner panels you will never know about until you disassemble. Go with doing the 302 in a Ranger.

Man, nobody must have nothing to do, five of us posted within eleven mins. Full restoration is going to be big bucks to do it right, even if's it's just a 6 banger coupe. My Ranchero came from CA and I know what I had to put into it, doing it myself - and I'm still not done.

Mustang will be cheaper and easier.
All kind of original and aftermarket parts available.
What are registration laws like in your state?
My '68 Stang has historic plates in NJ so no inspection is required.:-)
Will the "drag" truck be street legal?

302's and 5 speeds can be found just about anywhere. Look at the different style rangers, 1st or 2nd generation most likely, and see which style you like better. Find one that's already a stick. They're a dime a dozen in most places...

Check out craigslist?

If I were building a drag truck, I'd be looking for a regular cab. Personally, I like the older rangers. Of the two choices, i'd pick the 92. I'd be doing a little more shopping around though.
