I got bored the other day so I decided to start on a little project. I had a small GPS unit sitting in my console and figured i could mount it somewhere in the dash, I am the third guy to do this at my shop. This was done in my 1991 ford ranger 2wd if anyone is wondering.
First I removed the dash trim panel, held on by clips, then removed the center AC vent.

After that I test fitted the unit to the vacant hole where a 4wd switch would have gone.

I trimmed the vent case so the GPS would fit and routed my power cord through the dash.

After all that was done I fit everything back together with the GPS installed.

Any questions just ask, an please leave feedback. It isn't finished yet i still want to reinforce where the GPS sits and get rid of the tape.

Nice job great fit... what size screen is it?

To get it back out, there are four retainers that hold the ac vent in place.First pry the top of the vent being careful not to break it.Then you can use a small screwdriver to pry the bottom two up, the vent should slip out after that. Then just pull the gps out, this may take a little work, since it is a snug fit.

Any trouble getting a lock on the satellites from that location?

I'm thinking about modifying my Garmin windshield mount and putting it and a power cord through the RH lighter hole on my 98 radio bezel. It looks like it will have a little of the windshield above it from that location. I have had minor issues with the Garmin getting a lock when I mount it too high on the windshield of my work van.

Edit: I've been lurking since 07, but this is apparently my first post!

OK, you need to copy this post and repost it in the write-ups and technical section. Jim can maybe use it in the tech library you know.
