there is very little difference between the years. there are two types of t-cases used on the rbv(bronco ii, ranger, explorer) the bw 1350 and 1354. the 1354 is what you should have and both are offered in electrical and manual(1354 are hard to find in manual). these cases are interchangeable with no problems the only difference is the out put yokes. the newer (90 and up i think) have a two piece front drive shaft and a solid universal at the t-case these should have a flat flange for the rear output. older 1350's have a slip yoke in the front and a universal joint in the back but the flat flange or universal can be swapped using a 30mm socket just be sure to get the right size universal(front an rear) since you have a 4.0 you should have the 3.22 inch universals be sure you get a t-case with the same. you also have a 2 piece front drive shaft if you get and older 1350 with the slip in the t-case you will need the front drive shaft of the donor. most will say the 1354 is better and stronger but the 1350 is holding up just fine behind my 4.0 5-speed and im not light footed on or off road
