I have a 1992 4x4 Ranger with a manual transmission, a 4.0 LT engine, extened cab XLT, a STX body style, and push button four wheel drive, or electronic four wheel drive. The 4 wheel drive When I push the button, there is a clicking sound right behind the drivers side seat in the back of the cab. The sound comes from a small black and I don't know what that does. Anyway, after the clicking sound well that's it, the light beside the button doesn't come on and it certainly does not go into four wheel drive. The motor on the side of the transfer case is not getting any electrictiy (already tested) but we can't figure where the conection is bad because we don't really know exactly how everything is put together. If you have any ideas on the problem post your idea please.

the black box behind the seat is the 4x4 control module. the light is to test the module. there is a way to test the module I'm not sure of the exact procedure but i know you remove 2 of the 3 wire harness connectors from it and press the button it will click and cycle. the light should blink if it is solid then something is wrong with the module. the wire harness connector you leave attached is the one leading to the t-case motor. do a search in the threads for testing the control module it has been brought up many times

by the way i had the same problem you will never get away from the electrical demons in the electronic 4x4 systems check into finding a manual t-case they are a direct bolt up the only difference is the hole in the floor. you can cut one or get the floor plate from the donor given it is the same(at/mt) as your truck just with the extra hole any info on this let me know

Thanks alot man i might try to put a manual T-case in but i really don't want any holes in the floor it's more of a classie truck there are like no dents, stains, really nothing wrong wit it except the four wheel drive. Not bragging but it's very nice! If anyone else has any suggestions or ideas your welcome to post them.

if you can find a good donor truck it will look 100% stock with the shift boot and floor plate the only thing holding in the plates are 4 screws. just roll back the carpet, swap the plates and put the carpet back use the hole as a guide for cuttin the carpet. if you can find a dash from a 2wd up to 97(i think) the center vent will replace your half vent that has the 4x4 switch. a local junk yard should have all this very cheap.

If you put in a manual t-case, the stick that comes through the floor board goes right where the stick for a manual would go wouldn't it cause mines a manual and i'm not sure that it would work that easy, but i hope so cause i think it's a great idea, but i'm only 15 and my dad don't want to spend to much money and time on it.

If you get the parts mentioned above from a manual-shift donor truck, it's 100% bolt-in and will look completely stock. As surffishin07 mentions you will have to trim your carpet a little after you change floor plates, but you won't see that when it's done.

The two shifters will be close, but they shouldn't interfere. My Explorer came from the factory with a manual transmission and t-case.

The t-case shifter is a lot shorter than the tranny shifter, and is spaced an inch or two to the left.

i agree i have a manual tranny and put in the manual t-case it works fine they only touch if you push on the shifters but what reason would you have to do that? just make sure you find the right donor truck. the t-cases have different shift linkages for different trannys (mainly the mazda/toyo/mistu manual trannys) i got mine off the a4ld auto and put it on a mazda. again any questions on the swap just ask i did it all in about 3 hours on the ground.

You got an estimate on what the T-case, shifter, and everything might cost, new or used because i'd go with either one. Cause i got a job but it probably don't pay that well.

I did the swap on my B2, and it looks stock.

the best place to check would be www.car-part.com it will give you a good round estimate on parts(most places will give you the shift linkage at little or no extra cost just dont forget to ask)

ps a u-pull junk yard will save big bucks so check around

Makes since, it's an awesome idea but like i said my dad probably won't let me do it right now, but i will probably do it in the sort of near future. Well i looked on there and i was just wondering what years, and what types (Bronco IIs, Certain Rangers) would fit into mine, it's a 92 Ranger, Extended cab, and an STX body Style.
